‘Amit Shah Will Respond’: Kiren Rijiju Assures Lok Sabha As Opposition Protests Student Action

The Lok Sabha witnessed intense sloganeering from Opposition benches on Monday as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju assured members that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would respond to the students’ protest.

The dispute concerns police action against protesters at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on July 20.

Students had demonstrated over the NEET paper leak and other examination-related irregularities.

The Opposition has sought Shah’s response over alleged police ‘brutality’ during the protest.

The Monsoon Session entered its final week on Monday. Opposition members continued their demonstrations over the examination controversy and the July 20 police action.

After proceedings resumed, Rijiju said Congress and Rahul Gandhi had demanded a statement from Shah. He said the government was prepared to discuss the students’ concerns and that the Home Minister would provide a detailed response.

Rijiju urged Opposition members not to withdraw when Shah addressed the House.

The disruption continued despite Jagdambika Pal, who was in the Chair, asking MPs to uphold parliamentary decorum.

Opposition members raised slogans and displayed placards. The Chair objected to the practice, citing parliamentary traditions.

Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal then rose to speak on the Tribunal Reforms Bill amid the disruption.

The Tribunal Reforms Bill, 2026, was subsequently passed despite the Opposition’s protests.

Pal questioned the continued disruption, saying the Home Minister was ready to respond and the Parliamentary Affairs Minister had already given an assurance. He urged MPs to stop displaying placards and participate in the discussion.

With the uproar persisting, the Chair adjourned the House for the day.
