The agency issued the clarification after the misleading video circulated widely online.
The fabricated clip attempts to present an unverified welfare announcement as an official government declaration.
The attached nine-second video contains several warning elements exposing the content as fabricated. It features prominent ‘STAY ALERT’ banners and Hindi text identifying the footage as AI-generated.
The video displays screenshots of multiple mobile recharge plans.
The images carry ‘fake’ labels and appear overlaid alongside PM Modi’s image, further illustrating the deceptive nature of the circulating content.
PIB Fact Check’s clarification reinforces the need for citizens to verify government announcements through authorised sources before believing or sharing viral posts.
The agency has urged users to remain cautious about digitally manipulated videos that imitate public figures.
Such deepfakes can create false claims by combining artificial visuals with misleading messages.
The alleged free recharge announcement has no basis in any official declaration.
The PIB Fact Check confirmed that the Prime Minister and the Central Government have made no announcement regarding a one-year free mobile recharge programme for women on August 15.
