Amit Shah Unveils State-Of-The-Art MLA Complex In Gandhinagar

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed residential complex for Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Gandhinagar on the auspicious occasion of Bhai Dooj.

The project, developed by the Roads and Buildings Department of the Gujarat government, spans 28,576 square metres in Sector 17 and replaces the older accommodation facilities, offering spacious, modern, and well-equipped housing for legislators.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, and Deputy Speaker Jetha Ahir attended the inauguration ceremony, along with several senior officials, dignitaries, and public representatives.

Modern Living for Lawmakers

Each unit in the complex follows a 3BHK layout, complete with an office and waiting area, servant room, kitchen, dining room, living room with balcony, dressing room, and two toilets, covering a carpet area of 170.32 sq. metres.

The state government has fully furnished all flats and equipped each block with two lifts to ensure convenience and accessibility.

The complex incorporates a wide range of modern amenities, including a large landscaped garden, a multipurpose hall with a 300-person capacity, a community hall, gymnasium, swimming pool, canteen/dining hall, indoor games area, medical clinic, and provision store.

To accommodate residents’ needs, the state government has provided two parking slots per unit—one in the basement and one on the ground floor—with all internal roads built in RCC for durability.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign and water conservation efforts, the complex includes rainwater harvesting systems and extensive green landscaping, with 600 new trees planted across the premises.

The initiative demonstrates Gujarat’s commitment to environmentally sustainable infrastructure development.

The complex also takes into account future housing requirements. Of the 216 units spread across 12 blocks, 180 units include fixed and loose furniture, while 36 units are furnished with fixed furniture only.

From Modest Quarters to Modern Homes

The new facility represents a major leap forward in the standard of accommodation for MLAs in Gujarat.

The earlier housing—one-bedroom units built in 1970–71 and two-bedroom flats in Sector 21, completed in 1990–91—no longer meet modern needs.

The new complex provides legislators with contemporary, comfortable residences that reflect the progress and aspirations of a modern Gujarat.

Following the inauguration, Amit Shah toured the complex and expressed satisfaction with its design and amenities, describing it as a model for public housing projects across India.

The ceremony also saw the presence of Gandhinagar Mayor Mira Patel, local MLAs, BJP city president Ashish Dave, municipal councillors, and senior departmental and administrative officials, marking a proud moment in the state’s infrastructure development journey.
