Amit Shah To Launch Land Port Management System For Smart Border Operations

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will likely launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on June 9, marking a significant step towards modernising India’s border management infrastructure through technology-driven solutions.

According to the statement, LPMS serves as a state-of-the-art digital platform that integrates operations across land ports into a single system.

The platform will enable secure, real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information, bringing land ports on par with the digital systems currently used at airports and seaports.

The initiative reflects the Modi government’s focus on smart border management aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement.

The LPMS will function as a neutral and open platform, facilitating seamless coordination among government agencies and private operators.

Officials said the system will likely reduce delays and improve operational efficiency through integrated digital processes.

The platform introduces end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, payments, tracking and single-window clearances.

It will also be fully integrated with major national platforms such as the Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway (ICEGATE), Unit Linked Insurance Plan (ULIP), and the motor vehicle ecosystem.

On the occasion, Amit Shah will also inaugurate newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura.

The facilities will strengthen infrastructure support for border security personnel and other stakeholders.

Land Ports Authority’s Role

The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a statutory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Border Management, currently manages 15 land ports across India’s borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Officials described the LPMS launch as a landmark step towards a technology-enabled border management framework, aligned with the broader goals of enhancing trade, connectivity, national security and the vision of a developed India by 2047.
