Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair an all-party meeting on Wednesday evening to brief political leaders on the evolving crisis in West Asia and its implications for India. Senior ministers, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, will attend the meeting on behalf of the government.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will present a detailed update on the latest developments in the region.
The meeting will begin at 5 PM in the Parliament complex. It follows recent remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described the situation as an ‘unprecedented crisis’ with potentially long-term consequences.
The conflict, now in its fourth week, has disrupted global trade routes, especially through the Strait of Hormuz. This disruption has increased volatility in energy markets and raised concerns about supply chains and inflation.
Opposition parties, including the Congress, have demanded a detailed discussion in Parliament.
In the Rajya Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the government for choosing a briefing instead of a full debate, arguing that the situation requires wider discussion.
In the Lok Sabha, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also criticised the government’s foreign policy. However, he said he would not attend the meeting due to prior commitments.
The meeting follows a high-level security review chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan and other senior officials attended that review.
The government aims to use the meeting to brief leaders and build political consensus as geopolitical tensions continue to escalate.
