Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a lengthy two-hour address in which he vehemently defended the BJP administration’s actions in Manipur. He also provided a thorough description of how the crisis developed and what the government had done to bring it under control.
The opposition and the motion of no confidence were also targets of Shah’s ire, who declared: “The violence in Manipur is disgusting. But politicizing it is much more repugnant.
One hour and fourteen minutes after he began, the Home Minister turned to the northeast and Manipur after describing in minute detail the government’s overall accomplishments over the previous nine years.
Shah emphasized that the government has been making great efforts to stop the violence in Manipur and that it acted quickly when the footage of the naked ladies being attacked by a crowd went viral. Additionally, he claimed that the release of the May-created film just one day prior to the start of Parliament’s monsoon session raised serious red flags.
Shah cited the government’s activities, adding that he had spent three days in the state and that 36,000 soldiers had been stationed there in various locations. Nityanand Rai, a minister of state for the home, had also spent more than 20 days in Manipur.
In the no-confidence motion debate in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah claims that “neither the public nor the House have lost faith in the government.”The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, stated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that “the people and Parliament have full confidence in the Narendra Modi-led government.”
Shah stated that since May 3, 14,898 people from all tribes had been detained for causing problems, and that the government had taken decisive action to put an end to the violence. He claimed that the declining death toll also showed that the violence had decreased drastically rather than ended. 107 people perished in battles with opposing tribes or the police in May, according to statistics from the Home Ministry. According to Shah, this dropped to 30 in June and 15 in July. Shah continued by saying that 68 of the 107 individuals slain in May did so in the first three days following the start of the fighting. What I’m trying to convey is that there has been a progressive decline in violence, and we shouldn’t fan the flames further.

The Home Minister described how a number of factors came together to cause the violence. He claimed that conflict between Kuki tribal groups in Myanmar and Thailand was a contributing factor in the issue. The Myanmar government responded by taking aggressive action against them and even conducting bombing attacks. As a result, numerous Kukis crossed the unguarded border and sought safety in India.
Due to the open border between India and Myanmar, it is simple for migrants fleeing persecution to cross. According to Shah, the government installed 10 km of test fencing two years ago and plans to finish the remaining distance soon.
According to Shah, the inclusion of the Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribes list by the Manipur High Court in March added to the state’s already existing uncertainty.
Shah addressed the Lok Sabha: “Let’s sit together to talk and resolve the issues. The government has no intention of changing the balance of the tribals in the state.” The Indian government has no plans to alter the state’s demographics. “We are in discussions with the Meitei community as well as the Kuki community,” he continued.
Shah reiterated his argument and urged the two communities to engage in dialogue instead of resorting to violence: “I appeal to both Meitei and Kuki communities to shun violence and hold talks with the government,” he added.
The Home Minister criticized the Opposition, claiming that they had prevented him from speaking earlier in the session by demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement in the House. “I’m prepared to respond. I have to do it. I have obligations to the country, this Parliament, and the opposition. They won’t, however, let me talk. This is what you call a democracy, he asked.
In addition to defending the government’s actions in the northeast, Shah noted that Manipur had been under BJP rule for six years and had not seen a curfew during that time. He also stated that Modi has put in a lot of effort to bring progress to the area, unlike past administrations.
Shah began his explanation of what transpired in Manipur by defending the Modi Government’s record generally and criticizing nearly every previous administration before 2014. “Corruption had plagued this nation for 30 years. They were engaging in caste or family-based politics prior to 2014. He proclaimed, “Narendra Modi dumped all that.
In his speech, Shah delivered a snappy defense of the government’s actions since 2014, keeping the attention on the government’s initiatives for gas cylinders, tap water, and the number of toilets constructed during the previous nine years. “You mentioned it. We succeeded, he remarked.

The Home Minister made frequent references to the fact that yesterday was the anniversary of the 1942 launch of Mahatma Gandhi’s Quit India movement. However, he spun the anniversary to claim that it was time for a Quit India movement against family politics and corruption.
Only 1 hour and 14 minutes into his protracted speech—by which time most listeners had declared it “long and boring”—Shah switched to Manipur. He did, however, seem to have changed this after two hours.
