Amit Shah Sets December 31, 2029 Deadline To Make Madhya Pradesh Drug-Free

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday set December 31, 2029, as the deadline to make Madhya Pradesh drug-free. He said he would work with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Home Department officials to prepare a detailed plan.

Addressing a state-level conference of cattle rearers in Bhopal, Shah urged people across Madhya Pradesh to support the anti-narcotics campaign. He especially appealed to mothers to remain vigilant about the impact of drugs on their children.

“We will make Madhya Pradesh drug-free. I have come here to assure every mother that after December 31, 2029, there will be no place for drugs in Madhya Pradesh for your sons and daughters. I have come here to put in place a detailed plan to achieve this,” Shah said.

Shah said he would meet the Chief Minister and Home Department officials to discuss measures required to implement the campaign.

The Centre stepped up its campaign against narcotics and focused on dismantling drug networks. It strengthened prevention, treatment and rehabilitation measures as part of the campaign.

Shah further inaugurated an exhibition on the new criminal laws in Bhopal. He said the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and related laws would transform the criminal justice system by reducing delays and setting defined timelines.

The Minister said the new framework would ensure that a guilty person could be convicted within three years of an FIR, extending up to the Supreme Court.

Shah contrasted this with the prolonged litigation associated with the earlier system.

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam replaced the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act from July 1, 2024.
