Amit Shah Reaffirms India Will Be Naxal-Free By March 31

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated that India is expected to be Naxal-free by March 31, with remaining Naxalites facing the choice of surrendering or being neutralised.

Officials confirm that operations have reached the final phase, targeting the top four Naxal leaders: Thippiri Tirupathi, Muppala Laxman Rao, Misir Besra, and Asim Mondal.

Of these, Tirupathi and Besra remain determined to continue the fight, while Rao and Mondal are likely to surrender due to age or lack of interest.

Although approximately 200 uniformed Naxalites remain, authorities emphasise that apprehending the top leaders will prompt the automatic surrender of many others.

Security forces report that most Naxalites joined under coercion or for monetary gain, which reduces their resistance during operations.

Chhattisgarh hosts the majority of active cadres, while Odisha, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Telangana collectively account for 40–50 operatives.

Officials have noted attempts to revive the movement in urban centres, including the display of supportive banners during protests.

Security and intelligence agencies maintain a close watch on funding routes, urban operatives, and propaganda efforts to prevent resurgence.

Between 2025 and 2026, security forces achieved significant gains, including the elimination of top leaders like Basavaraj and the surrender of senior Politburo members such as Mallojula Venugopal Rao, Chandranna, Raider, and Rupesh.

Seizures of arms and ammunition further weakened the movement, leading to large-scale cadre surrenders and a major setback to Naxal operations nationwide.

This concerted effort brings India closer than ever to achieving a Naxal-free status, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s internal security landscape.
