Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi are set to arrive in Chennai on Monday as election campaigning in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry enters a decisive phase. Their visits underline the growing political intensity ahead of polling.
According to official sources, Amit Shah will arrive in the afternoon from Kochi by private aircraft.
Shortly after landing, he will take a helicopter to Puducherry and campaign for candidates of the National Democratic Alliance, boosting the Bharatiya Janata Party’s outreach in the region.
Following his engagements, Shah will return to Chennai in the evening and remain briefly at the airport’s VIP lounge.
During this time, senior state BJP leaders are likely to meet him to discuss campaign strategy and coordination before his departure to New Delhi later in the evening.
Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Chennai earlier in the day from New Delhi. Leaders of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee will receive him, and he will hold a closed-door meeting to review campaign plans ahead of the crucial elections.
Rahul Gandhi will travel to Puducherry in a smaller aircraft to campaign for Congress and alliance candidates. His return schedule remains uncertain, suggesting he may continue engagements in the region.
With both leaders transiting through Chennai airport on the same day, authorities have heightened security arrangements.
Officials confirmed that they held coordination meetings to streamline movement, regulate VIP access, and ensure smooth operations.
The back-to-back visits highlight the high-stakes nature of the ongoing electoral battle in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as major parties intensify efforts to secure voter support.
