Amit Shah Meets Jain Spiritual Leaders In Ahmedabad, Praises Values Of Ahimsa And Self-Restraint

Union Home Minister Amit Shah met two prominent Jain spiritual leaders in Ahmedabad on Friday and underscored the lasting significance of non-violence, self-restraint and non-possessiveness in Indian society.

Shah began his visit at Prerna Tirth Derasar in the Satellite area, where he paid his respects to Gachchhadhipati Acharya Nar Ratna Surishwarji Maharaj and received his blessings.

He subsequently visited Shri Vishwanandikar Jain Sangh in Paldi, where he met Gachchhadhipati Uday Ratna Surishwarji Maharaj and sought his blessings.

Sharing details of his visit on X, Shah said he had received blessings from Acharya Nar Ratna Surishwarji Maharaj.

“The teachings of non-violence, self-restraint and non-possessiveness in the Jain tradition have guided Indian society for centuries. The company of the revered Maharaj provides a direct experience of this outlook on life,” Shah wrote.

He also shared the message in Gujarati, reiterating the importance of ahimsa (non-violence), sanyam (self-restraint) and aparigraha (non-possessiveness) in shaping Indian society across generations.

The Home Minister represents the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency and visited both religious establishments to pay his respects to the revered acharyas.

Jainism places strong emphasis on avoiding harm to living beings, practising self-discipline and limiting attachment to material possessions.

The principle of ahimsa encourages compassion towards all living beings, while aparigraha promotes restraint in acquiring possessions and developing material attachments.

These ethical principles form the foundation of Jainism’s spiritual teachings and continue to influence religious and cultural traditions across India.

Ahmedabad has a longstanding Jain religious and cultural presence, with numerous temples and also religious institutions serving as centres of worship, learning and spiritual guidance.
