Amit Shah Inaugurates Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir In Guwahati

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday inaugurated the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati, marking a major milestone in Assam’s efforts to strengthen cultural and public infrastructure.

The auditorium is the largest of its kind in the Northeast and is likely to play a key role in promoting arts, culture, and large public engagements in the region.

Constructed at a cost of ₹291 crore, the state-of-the-art cultural complex has a seating capacity of 5,000. The complex spans 45 bighas, covering nearly 15 acres, in the Khanapara area of Guwahati.

Officials said the project envisions the venue as a premier hub for hosting large-scale cultural programmes, conferences, and national and international events.

Furthermore, the complex includes a modern convention centre, five VIP suites, and a multi-level parking facility with space for around 450 vehicles.

The authorities have incorporated advanced audio-visual systems, modern stage facilities, and robust digital infrastructure to meet global standards.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir reflects the state government’s commitment to promoting culture alongside sustainable development.

He noted that the complex will operate on green energy, with solar panels installed on the rooftop to reduce its carbon footprint and align with Assam’s environmental goals.

Moreover, the auditorium is named after two iconic figures of Assam’s cultural heritage—Jyotiprasad Agarwala and Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

Officials said the venue will provide a major platform for artists, cultural organisations, and institutions from across the Northeast, while also hosting large public gatherings and government programmes.

Social Welfare Initiative Highlighted

During his visit, the Union Home Minister will felicitate around 1,000 beneficiaries of the Congenital Heart Disease programme at the newly inaugurated auditorium.

The initiative also highlights the government’s focus on combining infrastructure development with social welfare.

Cultural circles and officials have widely welcomed the inauguration of the Jyoti–Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, describing it as a significant addition to Assam’s cultural landscape.

The project will likely boost cultural tourism, encourage large-scale events, and strengthen Guwahati’s role as a regional centre for culture, governance, and public engagement in the Northeast.
