Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated the newly constructed Sahakar Bhavan, the headquarters of The Jamnagar District Co-operative Bank Limited, describing it as a major step towards strengthening the cooperative movement and improving the livelihoods of farmers and rural communities across Gujarat’s Halar region.
Built at a cost of around ₹25 crore over 25,000 square feet, the new headquarters offers modern banking facilities, including conference and training rooms, meeting halls, a farmers’ hostel, dormitories, a kitchen and a dining hall to enhance banking services and support the rural cooperative network.
Addressing the event virtually, Shah said reforms introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership had made the cooperative sector stronger, more transparent and technology-driven. He said the new Sahakar Bhavan would advance the vision of ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’ and become a centre for the economic empowerment of farmers, livestock owners and rural communities.
Shah urged cooperative banks to embrace modern technology and praised the bank for adopting RBI- and NABARD-compliant digital banking systems.
Shah said the bank had grown from deposits of ₹2.5 lakh in 1959 to annual business of over ₹2,154 crore and expressed confidence that its 40 branches would eventually reach every village in Jamnagar district.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said digital banking, micro ATMs and Bank Mitras had improved financial inclusion, adding that 97 per cent of the bank’s lending supported agriculture while it maintained zero per cent net NPAs.
State Minister Arjun Modhwadia said the government had digitised cooperative societies, provided over ₹11,500 crore in farmer relief and ensured MSP procurement to strengthen rural livelihoods.
