Amit Shah Congratulates Praggnanandhaa On Historic Norway Chess Triumph

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa on winning the prestigious Norway Chess 2026 title, describing the achievement as a proud moment for India.

Taking to X, Shah posted, “Kudos to @rpraggnachess on becoming the Norway Chess Champion 2026. You have made the nation proud with the victory earned through wholehearted dedication, brilliant moves and strategic thinking. May you continue to inspire our youngsters by bringing home more honours.”

The Norway Chess organisers released an official champion’s portrait celebrating Praggnanandhaa’s victory. The achievement marked a significant milestone, as he became the first Indian player to win the prestigious tournament.

Praggnanandhaa delivered a series of outstanding performances to secure the title. He finished the competition with 18 out of 30 points and produced a remarkable four-game winning streak during the event.

Praggnanandhaa’s campaign also featured two classical victories over world number one Magnus Carlsen, widely regarded as one of the greatest chess players in history. Those victories played a crucial role in strengthening his title challenge.

The tournament victory further enhanced Praggnanandhaa’s standing among the world’s elite chess players. His composed approach, strategic brilliance, and ability to perform under pressure earned widespread praise from the chess community.
