Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday characterised the Women’s Reservation Bill as a significant and timely reform, calling on all sections of society to extend their support. He stressed that the legislation is vital to strengthening women’s participation in decision-making processes.
Taking to X, Shah said, “Women’s Reservation Bill is the need of the hour. This is the rightful due of our Nari Shakti to contribute to policymaking and empower the nation. The Modi government is resolved to bring and implement this legislation. This is a change that should certainly take place for the better, without delay. I hope everyone will step forward and support this historic move.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi communicated directly with the nation’s Nari Shakti through a letter, reaffirming the government’s resolve to implement the long-awaited reform. He pointed to the increasing public support for women’s reservation in legislative institutions.
“Women across India are appreciating the initiative to ensure reservation for women in legislative bodies. Here is my letter to India’s Nari Shakti, reiterating our commitment to implement what has been pending for decades,” PM Modi posted on X.
The Prime Minister opened his message with a customary greeting and noted the significance of April 14, which marks the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar. He also acknowledged Ambedkar’s lasting contribution to nation-building and his dedication to constitutional ideals.
PM Modi further indicated that Parliament will reconvene on April 16. It will take up discussions on a crucial constitutional amendment linked to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
The collective statements by senior leaders also signal a renewed push to enhance women’s representation in legislative bodies.
The proposed legislation will likely contribute meaningfully to advancing gender equality and deepening democratic participation across the country.
