Amit Shah Begins First Post-Operation Sindoor Visit To Jammu & Kashmir

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is arriving in Jammu on Thursday evening for a two-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir.

This marks his first visit to the region following the Indian Armed Forces’ cross-border retaliation under ‘Operation Sindoor’, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

On Friday, Shah will visit the border district of Poonch and address Border Security Force (BSF) jawans at the Unit Headquarters in Khanetar.

He will also meet civilians affected by Pakistani shelling at the Dak Bungalow in Poonch.

Pakistan’s retaliatory shelling on 7–8 May, following India’s strikes on nine terror bases, killed thirteen civilians, including four children.

Support For Families Of Victims

As part of his outreach, Shah will distribute appointment letters to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the cross-border attacks.

His visit to Poonch underscores the government’s commitment to support affected families and demonstrate solidarity with frontline communities.

Upon his arrival in Jammu, the Home Minister will hold a high-level security review meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Indian Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police, intelligence agencies, and civil administration.

This review will cover the current security environment, including anti-terror operations, infiltration prevention, and preparations for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Special attention will be given to the post-‘Operation Sindoor’ situation and Pakistan’s escalatory responses targeting civilian areas.

Religious Sites & Symbolic Significance

Shah will also visit religious locations damaged or targeted during Pakistani shelling.

These symbolic gestures aim to reassure local communities of the government’s commitment to preserving religious and cultural heritage in sensitive border areas.

‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow on 22 April, where 26 civilians, including 25 tourists, were killed.

The attackers reportedly segregated victims by religion before executing the massacre.

The Indian Army’s counter-strike followed swiftly, hitting deep terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan and PoK.

Shah’s visit underlines the Centre’s dual approach: strong counter-terrorism measures coupled with empathetic support for civilians and forces on the ground.

As security operations intensify, such high-level visits reinforce morale and strategic commitment in Jammu and Kashmir.
