After Maha Kumbh, Sangam To Yield Prosperity With Zaid Crops

Farmers in Prayagraj are expecting a bumper yield of Zaid crops following the grand celebration of Mahakumbh. While millions of devotees took a holy dip in the Sangam, local farmers have begun sowing watermelon, cucumber, and melon along the banks of the Ganga and Yamuna. The region’s sandy soil and fresh river water create ideal conditions for Zaid crops, opening new agricultural opportunities and generating employment for thousands of local youth.

On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a record amount of water has been released into the Ganga and Yamuna, ensuring a steady water supply for irrigation. Scientists confirm that the sandy soil in this region is highly suitable for Zaid crops. Sowing has already begun, and farmers are hopeful for a prosperous harvest. Experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Prayagraj II are guiding farmers with advanced techniques to improve productivity and increase profits.

Ideal Conditions For Zaid Crops

Large-scale Zaid crop farming has started along the Sangam banks in Prayagraj. Farmers in areas such as Ganga Paar, Yamuna Paar, Jhunsi, Phaphamau, and Jasra have begun sowing watermelon, cucumber, and melon. According to Dr. Himanshu Singh, a horticulture scientist in Prayagraj, the sandy soil and adequate water supply make this region ideal for Zaid crops. The crops thrive in warm weather and sandy soil, which helps increase yield and quality.

The cultivation of Zaid crops will boost the local economy and create jobs for local youth. Farmers can earn up to Rs 5 lakh monthly from these high-yield crops. Dr. Himanshu Singh highlighted emerging opportunities in packaging, transportation, and marketing, which will further strengthen the local economy. The increased demand for summer fruits like watermelon and melon will provide a stable income for farmers and create additional work opportunities.

Mahakumbh has not only elevated Prayagraj’s spiritual significance but also boosted its agricultural and economic prospects. Scientists, including Dr. Anurag Singh, are training farmers to enhance productivity and maximize financial gains. This initiative is expected to transform Prayagraj into a key center for Zaid crop cultivation.
