‘152 Paper Leaks, Zero Accountability’: Rahul Gandhi Lists Three Demands

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday intensified his attack on the Centre over the NEET paper leak issue, alleging that India’s education system was ‘in tatters’ and that students from lower and middle-class families were bearing the brunt of a ‘broken’ system.

Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters, Rahul claimed that the current government has rigged the country’s education system.

“At least 152 paper leaks have happened in the past 10 years. About 7.5 crore students and families have been affected because of this, but there has not been a single conviction,” Rahul remarked.

Backing the ongoing student protests in the national capital, the Congress MP said the demonstrators were fighting for a fair and legitimate cause. He alleged that the government was using force to suppress their movement and maintained that their demands were justified.

Rahul Gandhi also wore a black band on his arm for a symbolic protest against irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and to condemn the police action taken against protesting students.

The LoP in Lok Sabha targeted Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing him as ‘corrupt and incompetent’ and alleging that his leadership has damaged India’s education system.

Three Demands

The Congress leader outlined three demands, beginning with the removal of Dharmendra Pradhan from his post over alleged incompetence. He also called for accountability and action against those responsible for lapses in the NEET examinations and demanded an apology from the ‘top person’ (Prime Minister) ‘behind the entire mess’.

Rahul further alleged that the ‘rigged’ education system had placed students from poor and middle-class families at a disadvantage. He claimed that despite investing years of hard work and spending lakhs on competitive exams, many deserving candidates were denied opportunities while students from privileged backgrounds secured medical seats.
