10 Years Of UPI: How PM Modi’s Digital Vision Transformed Payments, Says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday described UPI as an example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India through innovation as the digital payment platform completed 10 years.

In a post on X, Shah said UPI had given the world the largest real-time payment system and demonstrated what Digital India could achieve by empowering people with a fast, seamless and secure payment interface.

The government has highlighted UPI’s rapid growth over the past decade, with annual transactions increasing around 13,000 times from 1.78 crore in 2016-17 to 24,162 crore in FY 2025-26.

Union Ministers highlighted UPI’s decade-long growth and its contribution to taking India’s digital public infrastructure to the global stage.

The Finance Minister’s Office said UPI now operates in 11 countries, including France, Singapore, the UAE, Greece and Mauritius.

The system has expanded from enabling seamless domestic payments to supporting digital transactions across borders.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal described UPI as a revolution driven by PM Modi’s vision and the Digital India initiative. He further highlighted how QR-code payments have become part of everyday life for millions of Indians.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri credited PM Modi’s leadership for transforming the digital payments ecosystem. He said UPI has made payments faster, easier, safer and more accessible while supporting greater financial participation.

The government has presented UPI’s growth as evidence of Digital India’s expanding reach and its role in strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure.
