Gujarat Reports 64 New Covid-19 Cases In 24 Hours; Majority Recovering At Home

Gujarat recorded 64 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the state’s total active case count to 461, according to official health data.

Of these, only 20 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, while 441 are recuperating at home.

Ahmedabad continues to report the highest number of infections, with 241 active cases—more than half of the state’s total.

This marks a fourfold increase from just 76 cases a week ago, prompting heightened concern among local authorities.

On Tuesday, a 37-year-old woman was admitted to Asarwa Civil Hospital, where four patients are currently under care, including two men, a woman, and an eight-month-old baby girl.

National Ranking And Recovery Trends

Despite the recent surge, Gujarat has seen 156 recoveries since 1 January 2025, with 36 recoveries reported in the past 24 hours.

Nationally, the state now ranks third in active Covid-19 cases, trailing behind Kerala (1,416) and Maharashtra (494). Delhi (393) and West Bengal (372) round out the top five.

Gujarat currently accounts for 10% of the country’s active Covid-19 cases.

Mild Cases And Home-Based Treatment

According to officials in the State Health Department, the majority of cases involve mild symptoms, and patients are being treated at home.

Hospitals are primarily admitting individuals with severe symptoms or co-morbid conditions.

Government Steps Up Response

In response to the upward trend, the Gujarat government has intensified its efforts to manage a potential escalation.

Health authorities have been placed on high alert, particularly in urban centres such as Ahmedabad.

The state has increased testing and activated local health surveillance teams to monitor clusters.

Rapid response teams are operational in districts with rising case numbers, while hospitals have been instructed to prepare isolation wards, oxygen beds, and ICUs.

Emphasis On Preventive Measures

The government is also prioritising home-based care for patients with mild symptoms.

Teleconsultation services and medicine kits are being distributed to support recovery at home.

Meanwhile, awareness campaigns have resumed in both urban and rural areas, urging citizens to practise Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing masks in crowded places and avoiding unnecessary gatherings.

Coordination with municipal bodies has been strengthened for contact tracing, sanitisation drives, and public communication. As Gujarat aims to prevent a broader outbreak while ensuring its healthcare infrastructure remains prepared.
