The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit has issued a warning about the spread of AI-generated fake videos on social media, particularly on the YouTube channel ‘DXPDIPAK’, which has been sharing fabricated content depicting train and air accidents in India.
In a post shared on X, PIB Fact Check stated that creators used AI tools to fabricate all such videos, which do not depict any real incidents. The agency urged citizens to avoid trusting or circulating such misleading material, as malicious actors are spreading it to create panic and sensationalism among viewers.
The government’s fact-checking body emphasised the importance of verifying content through official and reliable sources, especially when it concerns public safety and transport-related incidents.
“Do not trust or share such content created with the malicious intent of spreading fear and sensation among the general public,” the PIB advisory stated.
Officials highlighted that the growing misuse of artificial intelligence to create realistic-looking fake visuals has made it easier for misinformation to spread rapidly, often leading to public confusion and unnecessary alarm.
PIB Fact Check further appealed to social media users to become active participants in the fight against fake news, encouraging vigilance and responsible online conduct.
The agency’s campaign against misinformation aims to build a digitally aware and resilient citizenry, capable of identifying and reporting false narratives circulating on the internet.
Authorities reiterated that verified government handles and official press statements always release authentic updates on railways, aviation, and other public safety matters.
As misinformation powered by AI continues to rise, the advisory serves as a timely reminder to think before sharing and to rely solely on credible, verified information sources for news concerning national safety and security.
