The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit has flagged a viral message claiming that customers of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) must update their PAN card within 24 hours or risk having their accounts blocked.
PIB has confirmed that the claim is completely false.
Taking to X, the PIB Fact Check posted, “The customer’s India Post Payments bank account will be blocked within 24 hours if their Pan card is not updated.”
The misleading message has been circulating via SMS and social media. It warns account holders that failing to link their PAN card within 24 hours will lead to account suspension.
However, India Post and IPPB have issued no such directive. Officials clarified that such alerts are commonly used by cybercriminals to steal sensitive data.
Authorities urged citizens to remain cautious and verify information before acting on such messages.
The PIB stressed the importance of not clicking on suspicious links or sharing OTPs, account details, or identification numbers with strangers.
India Post Payments Bank has previously cautioned users about phishing attempts and fake customer care numbers circulating online. The bank consistently reminds customers to rely only on official communication channels for updates.
This clarification comes amid rising incidents of online fraud. Citizens are encouraged to report fake messages to cybercrime portals and stay updated through trusted government handles.
