PIB Debunks Fake AI Video Of FM Nirmala Sitharaman Promoting Investment Scheme

Authorities have flagged a misleading video embedded in a Facebook advertisement that falsely depicts Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing an investment platform.

The advertisement claims investors can earn returns of up to ₹5,50,000 per week with an initial investment of ₹22,000.

The Press Information Bureau, through its fact-check unit, confirmed that the video is fake and has been created using artificial intelligence. It categorically stated that neither the Finance Minister nor the Government of India has authorised or promoted any such scheme.

Officials clarified that Nirmala Sitharaman has not endorsed any investment platform offering such returns.

The government has distanced itself from these claims, urging citizens not to fall for such fraudulent promotions.

Cyber fraudsters often rely on manipulated videos and exaggerated promises of unusually high returns to lure unsuspecting individuals. These tactics are designed to create a false sense of credibility and urgency, pushing people to invest without proper verification.

Authorities have advised the public to verify any financial claims through official government sources before making investments or sharing personal and financial information.

Users should exercise caution when encountering advertisements that promise unrealistic profits.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant while browsing online platforms and to think carefully before clicking on suspicious links.

Reporting such content can help curb the spread of misinformation and prevent financial fraud.

The government has emphasised the importance of digital awareness in tackling online scams.

Individuals can play a key role in preventing the spread of fake content by staying informed and cautious. Such awareness can also help them protect themselves from cyber fraud.
