Govt Debunks Claims Of Rift Between PM Modi & Army Chief As Pakistan-Driven Propaganda

The Indian government has firmly dismissed social media claims suggesting a rift between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

According to the official fact-checking handle of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), these claims are entirely false and have been traced to propaganda accounts based in Pakistan.

The misinformation, which gained traction on various social media platforms, alleged disagreements between the political and military leadership in India.

However, PIB Fact Check promptly flagged the narrative as fabricated and clarified that no such conflict exists.

Using the hashtags #False and #PIBFactCheck, the bureau highlighted the orchestrated nature of the misinformation campaign, which appears to be part of a broader strategy to sow distrust among Indian citizens.

Taking to the social media platform X, PIB Fact Check stated, “Don’t fall for propaganda! #Pakistan-based accounts are spreading fake narratives of a rift between Prime Minister Narendra Modi & Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi #PIBFactCheck: The claim is #false & baseless Pakistani #propaganda accounts attempt to deceive citizens and erode public trust”

Foreign Propaganda Aims to Undermine Public Trust

Officials noted that Pakistan-based online accounts are spreading disinformation to mislead the public and undermine faith in the government and armed forces.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting reiterated that these propaganda efforts are part of a systematic attempt to erode institutional trust in India.

The government has urged citizens to exercise caution while consuming and sharing content on social media, especially content that targets national security or key public figures.

Authorities continue to monitor such activity and encourage people to rely on official sources for accurate information.

The PIB’s swift rebuttal comes amid increasing concerns over foreign interference in India’s digital space, particularly through the dissemination of fake news targeting civil-military relations.

As India continues to face sophisticated online information warfare, the government emphasised the need for collective vigilance against such attempts to destabilise public confidence.
