Actor Sunny Deol met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Friday while promoting his forthcoming period drama, ‘Batwara 1947’.
The actor shared a photograph of the meeting on Instagram and said it had been a pleasure to meet the Chief Minister during his visit to the state capital. He described their conversation as warm and pleasant.
Sunny is currently touring different cities to promote the film, which explores the humanitarian crisis that unfolded during the Partition of India as the country gained independence from British rule.
Earlier, the actor arrived in Patna with his son, Karan Deol, to begin promotions for the historical drama.
Media personnel surrounded the father-son duo at Patna airport, where Sunny briefly interacted with reporters before leaving for his scheduled engagements.
‘Batwara 1947’ follows a family whose life changes permanently as violence, fear and forced migration divide communities that had once lived together peacefully.
Despite portraying severe loss and communal tensions, the film highlights courage, kindness, resilience and hope during one of history’s most turbulent periods.
The cast includes Shabana Azmi, Preity G Zinta, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.
Reports that the story remains banned in Pakistan have generated further interest in the film ahead of its theatrical release.
The project reunites Aamir Khan, composer AR Rahman and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who previously collaborated on the acclaimed film ‘Lagaan’. It also brings director Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol together again after nearly three decades.
Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit have produced the film, which will receive a worldwide theatrical release on 14 August 2026. Its release near India’s Independence Day is expected to reinforce the historical and emotional significance of its Partition-era narrative.
