Actor Mithun Chakraborty Says He Has No Political Ambition

Veteran actor and political figure Mithun Chakraborty has clarified that he does not seek to advance further in politics, stressing that his priorities lie in appreciating his achievements rather than chasing power.

The celebrated recipient of honours such as the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Bhushan spoke about his journey from humble beginnings and expressed deep appreciation for the recognition he has received.

“I don’t have any political ambition. I am not able to handle what God has given me so far, 2nd biggest civilian award, Padma Bhushan. Dadasaheb Phalke award, India’s highest honour in cinema. You have given so much to a poor kid like me who came from a footpath. I am not able to handle it,” he stated.

Explaining why he avoids electoral contests, Mithun Chakraborty said that participating in elections would confine him to a single location and limit his flexibility.

“I don’t fight because if I fight, I will be limited in one place. I don’t want to be limited. Once I enter a place, I will stay there. But I won’t go to another place. I will go there and campaign there. I will stay there, eat and drink. That is my way of doing things. Everyone will fight in another place. Let them win. After that, the party will decide,” he further mentioned.

Over time, Mithun Chakraborty has engaged with diverse political ideologies. In his youth, he reportedly aligned himself with the Naxalbari movement before stepping away due to family challenges.

Mithun Chakraborty later trained at the Film and Television Institute of India, rose to prominence in cinema, and subsequently entered politics. He earlier belonged to the All India Trinamool Congress and now associates himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly Elections 2026 will likely take place on April 23 and April 29 to elect all 294 members of the state assembly.

Despite the upcoming electoral contest, Mithun Chakraborty has reiterated that he remains focused on personal fulfilment and excellence rather than pursuing political office.
