India’s largest marathon dedicated to honouring soldiers, the PNB Soldierathon, will take place in Delhi on April 5 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The event has already recorded 26,741 registrations, with numbers continuing to rise.
Around 1,500 NCC volunteers and nearly 600 personnel from the Army, Air Force, and Navy will assist in organising the race and supporting participants.
Both soldiers and civilians will run together, reinforcing the spirit of ‘Run with Soldiers, Run for Soldiers’.
Major Surendra Poonia founded the initiative under the guidance of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
After his passing, General Bipin Rawat served as patron. Currently, General VK Singh leads as patron, alongside Shilpa Bhagat of Fit Bharat.
The marathon has previously been hosted in cities such as Sikkim, Raipur, Pune, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Delhi.
Funds raised support injured soldiers, including those disabled during combat, ensuring medical care and rehabilitation.
The Race Expo will take place from April 2 to April 4 at Thyagaraj Stadium. Participants will collect bib numbers, T-shirts, and kits.
The expo will also host fitness activities, interactions with injured soldiers, and cultural performances.
A special devotional music session will take place on April 3, featuring renowned artists. The event will feature a ‘Runners Wall’ displaying names of all participants with the message ‘Rukna Mana Hai’.
Punjab National Bank earlier launched the marathon, reinforcing its national significance.
Extensive arrangements include water, energy drinks, and medical support along the route.
Over four lakh water bottles have been arranged. Delhi Metro will offer free travel to participants wearing bib numbers, encouraging public transport usage.
The race, however, includes a half-marathon at 5 AM, a 10 km run at 6 AM, and a 5 km tribute run at 7 AM. The event reflects national unity and collective respect for the armed forces.
