‘3 Idiots’ Re-Release Reports Are False, Makers Issue Statement

The makers of the iconic Bollywood film 3 Idiots have denied reports claiming that the film will return to cinemas on September 4, 2026.

On Wednesday, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films issued an official statement on social media, clarifying that media reports about the re-release were incorrect.

“With reference to recent media reports claiming that ‘3 Idiots’ will be re-released on 4th September, Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films would like to clarify that these reports are false and factually incorrect. We request members of the media and fans to rely solely on official announcements made through Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films’ verified channels. We urge media publications to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information,” the production house said.

The reports surfaced during the ongoing student protests at Jantar Mantar following the removal of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk by Delhi Police on July 18 after he completed 21 days of an indefinite hunger strike.

The protest called for reforms in the education system and measures to curb examination paper leaks.

Sonam Wangchuk has inspired Aamir Khan’s character in 3 Idiots, according to widely held popular belief.

Aamir Khan recently clarified that the character was not based on Wangchuk but was a fictional creation of the writers.

Released with a strong message on education reform, 3 Idiots highlighted the importance of applying knowledge beyond examinations while addressing issues such as academic pressure and career choices through humour and emotion.

The film went on to redefine mainstream Bollywood cinema with its social message, sparking widespread conversations on India’s education system and student mental health. It remains one of the most celebrated and globally recognised Hindi films.
