UP Government Signs Power Purchase Agreement With Adani Power For 1,600 MW Supply

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved a significant agreement between Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and Adani Power Limited (APL) to supply 1,600 MW of electricity to the state.

The Uttar Pradesh government will establish a new thermal power plant to supply electricity under the power purchase agreement (PPA), which will last for 25 years.

Adani Power Wins Competitive Bid

Adani Power won the contract through a competitive bidding process held in October 2024.

This agreement aligns with the Uttar Pradesh Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure and ensure a reliable electricity supply for its growing demand.

A newly planned thermal power plant will supply 1,600 MW of power, which will be constructed in the state. The government had earlier issued a tender to source power from such a plant, and this agreement marks a major step toward fulfilling that goal.

Adani Saur Urja Wins Energy Storage Contract

Earlier this year, Adani Saur Urja (LA) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Green Energy, also secured a major contract with UPPCL.

The contract, which is for the procurement of 1,250 MW of energy storage capacity, further strengthens Adani’s involvement in Uttar Pradesh’s energy sector. The energy storage will come from Pumped Hydro Storage Projects.

The project, named Panaura PSP, will be developed in the Sonbhadra district and is expected to completed within the next six years.

This project will help in stabilising the grid by integrating renewable energy and providing a round-the-clock power supply.

Adani Power’s Strong Financial Performance In FY25

Adani Power has reported a solid financial performance for FY25, with a 21.4% increase in consolidated continuing profit before tax (PBT), which stood at Rs 13,926 crore compared to Rs 11,470 crore in FY24.

The company credited the growth to improved EBITDA and lower finance costs.

Total consolidated revenues for FY25 reached Rs 56,473 crore, up by 10.8% from Rs 50,960 crore in FY24, supported by higher sales volumes despite lower tariff realisation.

Adani Power Achieves Major Milestone In Power Generation

In a remarkable achievement, Adani Power generated 102.2 billion units (BU) of power in FY25, a 19.5% increase from the 85.5 BU generated in FY24.

This milestone underscores the company’s growing contribution to the nation’s energy sector.

UP Government’s Focus On Clean Energy

The UP Government is also making strides toward clean energy, with significant projects like the energy storage and renewable integration initiatives by Adani Group playing a key role.

These projects align with India’s clean energy goals and support the state’s efforts to integrate more renewable energy into its grid.
