‘Trust Matters More Than Entitlement’: Gautam Adani Reflects On Legal Battle, Nation-Building

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, has placed trust, resilience and responsibility at the heart of his vision for nation-building after a nearly two-year legal battle.

Two days after a US District Court permanently dismissed with prejudice the US Department of Justice’s criminal case against him, Gautam Adani said the experience deepened his humility. He stressed the importance of standing by the truth while allowing justice to follow its course with patience and dignity.

Addressing more than three lakh employees and partners across over 700 locations during ‘Apni Baat, Apno Ke Saath’, Gautam Adani reflected on the 2023 Hindenburg allegations and subsequent DoJ proceedings. He said adversity tests individuals, institutions and nations.

Drawing on the ‘Samudra Manthan’ metaphor, the Adani Group Chairman said turbulence can reveal true strength.

After the Hindenburg report, the Group returned its fully subscribed Rs 20,000 crore FPO, despite having the legal right to proceed.

Gautam Adani said the decision reflected a lesson from his father: trust matters more than entitlement. He credited employees, workers, suppliers, contractors, vendors and partners for maintaining operations throughout the scrutiny.

Engineers continued projects, while teams stayed focused on execution.

The Group recorded Rs 1.53 lakh crore in capital expenditure last year.

Investments continued across ports, airports, logistics, renewable energy, transmission, digital infrastructure and manufacturing.

Gautam Adani also thanked supporters who stood by the Group during difficult times. He acknowledged critics, saying their questions encouraged introspection.

Looking towards India’s 2047 centenary, Gautam Adani urged employees to consider their generation’s legacy. He said India’s progress must create opportunities, strengthen communities and uphold values.
