‘Ready To Answer Every Question’: Amit Shah Pushes For Debate On NEET Student Protest

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to consult Opposition parties and facilitate a discussion on the NEET students’ protest.

Shah said the government had already agreed to a parliamentary debate on the issue during the Business Advisory Committee meeting. He stressed that democratic solutions emerge through discussion and dialogue.

The Minister confirmed that he would remain present in the Lok Sabha during the debate. He said he was ready to respond to every question raised by Opposition members.

Shah noted that Parliament had earlier debated the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. He said no Opposition MP had raised the NEET examination issue during that discussion.

Despite this, Shah reiterated the Centre’s willingness to hold another detailed debate. He asked Birla to consult Opposition leaders and mutually decide the required time, whether in hours or days, starting Wednesday.

The Minister called for a constructive atmosphere where members from both Treasury and Opposition benches could present their views. His letter came amid Opposition criticism over his alleged absence from the House.

Opposition parties have demanded a statement on police action against students during their protest march. The dispute has repeatedly disrupted parliamentary proceedings.

Earlier, speaking to reporters on Parliament premises, Shah rejected claims that he was avoiding the House. He said he had regularly attended the ongoing Monsoon Session.

The Minister pointed out that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had already stated that the government was prepared for a detailed discussion.

Shah maintained that the Centre had accepted the Opposition’s original demand and that he was ready to answer questions in Parliament.
