The day that all the Apple fans had been waiting for has finally arrived. Today, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, will inaugurate the first-ever Apple retail store in India. The launch of two outlets in India represents the iPhone maker’s renewed focus on the country’s market. At 11 am, the store will open.
The Apple store which opens at 11 am at Jio World Drive in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), is spread over 20,000 square feet over two storeys. The store will be employing a 100 people who can speak 25 languages, together.
The craze of Apple products is such that customers wait in line outside Apple Stores all over the world because they want to be the first, or at least one of the first, to make a purchase from a brand-new Apple Store. Therefore, Apple lovers are anticipated to show similar enthusiasm at the store in BKC.
On Thursday, April 20, it will open a second outlet in Delhi. The Saket store will be smaller, at about 8,400 square feet. With the exception of the two stores it is opening this week in India, Apple has 521 locations worldwide. Tim Cook will attend the store opening festivities when he is in Mumbai.
Cook tweeted on Monday to confirm his attendance at the opening of the Apple store. He penned, “Hello, Mumbai! We can’t wait to welcome our customers to the new Apple BKC tomorrow.”
Cook also had meetings with Indian movie stars from Bollywood including Madhuri Dixit, Raveena Tandon, and music legend A.R. Rahman during the Apple Store preview.

Cook’s visit to India will be his first since 2016. During his trip, he plans to meet with important decision-makers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to discuss the company’s intentions to expand iPhone manufacturing there and look into other possibilities, such the creation of AirPods. The company, which employs over 2,500 people throughout its corporate offices in the nation, has been stepping up local manufacturing for both exports as well as to fulfil expanding domestic demand. Cook departs on April 21.
