Technip Energies, a French engineering and technology services firm, plans to open an R&D centre in India and expand its workforce.
The company views India as a key player in the global shift toward green hydrogen.
Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, said India is driving the largest projects for green hydrogen and green ammonia.
“India is at the forefront of the green hydrogen economy,” Pieton said.
Technip Energies has operated in India for nearly five decades. However, it has accelerated its investments over the past four years.
The company has doubled its workforce during this period and now plans to add 500 to 1,000 employees to its current 4,600-strong team in India over the next year.
Notably, the company is setting up a research and innovation centre at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Research Park.
This will complement Technip Energies’ three existing labs in Europe and the US. Pieton said the company remains focused on energy transition and decarbonization.
Currently, Technip Energies India manages contracts worth $500 million to $1 billion.
The Indian unit contributes 15% to the group’s global annual intake, with Indian teams involved in all major international projects.
Moreover, Technip Energies sees sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) as a major growth opportunity in India.
Pieton highlighted that India’s abundant feedstock and ability to produce ethanol from various bio-sources position it well for SAF production.
In conclusion, Technip Energies aims to strengthen its presence in India, focusing on green hydrogen and sustainable energy solutions.
