Stock Market Today: Sensex, Nifty End Higher After RBI Holds Repo Rate

Indian benchmark equity indices ended marginally higher on Wednesday after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the benchmark repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent and retained its neutral monetary policy stance, largely matching market expectations.

The Sensex gained 152.05 points, or 0.19 per cent, to settle at 78,581.00. The Nifty added 9.75 points, or 0.04 per cent, to close at 24,624.65.

Market participants largely absorbed the central bank’s policy decisions.

Gains in select sectors balanced weakness in banking stocks, resulting in a subdued trading session.

The RBI retained India’s FY27 GDP growth forecast at 6.7 per cent. It also lowered its headline inflation projection to 5 per cent from the earlier estimate of 5.1 per cent, supporting overall market sentiment.

Among Nifty constituents, Shriram Finance, Grasim Industries and JSW Steel emerged as the session’s top gainers.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices.

The Nifty MidCap index rose 0.18 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index advanced 0.7 per cent.

Sectoral performance remained mixed. The Nifty Metal index led the gains, followed by the Nifty Realty and Nifty Auto indices.

The Nifty Private Bank and Nifty Bank indices ended lower and remained the session’s weakest performers.

Market experts said 24,500 remains the immediate support level for the Nifty, followed by the 24,400 to 24,300 zone. They added that the 24,600 strike holds the highest Call Open Interest, making it an immediate resistance level.

A sustained close above 24,600 is necessary to confirm renewed bullish momentum. Until then, the index is expected to trade within a defined range.
