Indian equity markets Sensex and Nifty ended the trading session on a strong note, with sustained buying across FMCG, banking, financial services and real estate stocks pushing the benchmark indices higher.
The BSE Sensex rose 443.97 points to finish at 76,922.64, while the NSE Nifty added 140.10 points to close above the 24,000 mark at 24,005.85.
Technical analysts observed that the 24,100-24,200 range remains the immediate hurdle for the Nifty, as it aligns with the 100-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA). They believe a convincing breakout above this zone could trigger a further rally towards 24,400.
At the same time, the 23,900-23,800 range continues to provide strong support, backed by the 20-day and 50-day EMAs.
Buying interest remained concentrated in realty, FMCG, and automobile shares, making them the best-performing sectors of the day.
Eternal, Adani Enterprises, and Nestlé India led the list of top gainers on the Nifty. Information technology, metal, and pharmaceutical stocks lagged behind the broader market and recorded relatively subdued performance.
Positive sentiment extended beyond frontline stocks, with broader market indices ending in the green.
The Nifty MidCap index gained 0.34 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index climbed 0.36 per cent, reflecting continued participation across a wider range of stocks.
Market participants remained encouraged by improving external conditions at the start of the second half of the calendar year 2026.
Optimism surrounding a possible India-US trade agreement, easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, and relatively stable crude oil prices contributed to the positive mood, helping domestic equities maintain their upward trajectory.
