Indian equity markets traded higher in early deals on Thursday as investors responded positively to improving global sentiment and hopes of easing tensions in West Asia.
The benchmark Sensex rose nearly 627 points, or 0.83 per cent, to touch an intraday high of 75,945, while the Nifty gained around 200 points to trade above 23,850 during morning trade.
Market sentiment improved after Iran said it was reviewing Washington’s latest proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, raising hopes of easing geopolitical tensions in the region.
The remarks followed comments by US President Donald Trump, who said Washington was prepared to wait for Tehran’s response while warning of possible renewed attacks if talks failed.
On the sectoral front, realty stocks led the rally, with the Nifty Realty index rising 1.5 per cent.
Cement, chemicals, auto, media, PSU bank and metal stocks also traded in positive territory, with all sectoral indices remaining in the green.
Among broader markets, small-cap and mid-cap shares outperformed benchmark indices. The Nifty Microcap 250 index rose over 1 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 500 and Nifty Midcap 150 also recorded healthy gains.
A few heavyweight stocks, including Infosys, Nestle India, Trent, SBI Life Insurance, Sun Pharma, Tata Consumer Products and ONGC, traded lower during the session.
India VIX fell over 4 per cent, signalling easing volatility and improving investor confidence.
Analysts said investors continue to adopt a ‘buy on dips’ strategy amid stable sentiment and improving foreign fund flows. They added that expensive AI-linked stocks in South Korea and Taiwan could shift foreign investor interest towards India.
Experts said crude oil prices and rupee stability will remain key market drivers. Positive global cues from Asian markets and Wall Street also supported sentiment.
