Samsung Labour Union Holds Rally Ahead Of Resuming Talks With Administration

oA day before talks with the firm to end the industrial action over a pay increase were to resume, the striking Samsung Labour Union staged a rally, according to union officials.

At a Samsung building in Yongin, south of Seoul, some 1,200 National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) unionized workers participated in the demonstration.

Yonhap news agency reports that a clad wearing headband with ‘general strike’ printed on them, the unionised workers pledged for a “victory” in their strike.

The NSEU’s chief, Son Woo-mok, advised the workers that the walkout “will not change all at once, but let’s change it one by one.”

“Let’s make our Samsung Electronics with a long breath,” Son said.

Talks between the union and Samsung Electronics are scheduled for Tuesday. This will be the first in-person meeting since the union announced a strike on July 8.

The NSEU has called for a day off on the union’s founding day, a 5.6 percent basic salary increase for all members, and reimbursement for any financial losses incurred as a result of the walkout.

Despite the walkout, Samsung Electronics claims that the impact of Samsung Labour Union Protest on production has been negligible.
