ITRs filed
The Ministry of Finance has issued the data on the number of ITRs (Income Tax Returns) that have been filed for the Financial Year 2022-23. The last date for filing the ITR was 31st July 2023. Record-breaking numbers have been noted by the Ministry of Finance. A total of 7.78 Cr ITRs have been filed by the end of the financial year. In the previous financial year, it was just 7.14 Cr. It is to be noted that the number also includes 3.66 Lakh ITRs filed by Non-Residential Indians (NRIs) Maharashtra amongst all the other states have managed to attract the most ITRs accounting up to 1.20 Crores. On the other hand, Ladakh – the newly made Union Territory of India only noted a number of 114 ITRs.
As mentioned earlier, Maharashtra has topped the list with the most ITRs – 1.20 Crore. Uttar Pradesh stood second in the list with a marginal difference yet a good score. 75.7 Lakh ITRs have been filed by the people of UP. Next in line is Gujarat – the business state of India. The peninsular state got a number of 75.6 Lakhs which is only a little less from the state on the second place.
50.9 Lakh ITRs were filed in the desert state of Rajasthan, whose major source of revenue is tourism. Hence, the state is standing on fourth position. Fifth position is shared by the states of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu together as they got 47.9 Lakh ITRs filed for this year.

Ladakh, the newly formed Union Territory of India could only note a number of 114 ITRs, which is the least amongst all the states and UTs. Other than Ladakh, Mizoram recorded a really low score of just 715 ITRs. After them, Lakshadweep which is again a UT has a relatively fewer ITRs filing number, that of just 4000
