Muhurat Trading 2026: Sensex Falls 29 Points, Nifty Closes Below 25,000

Indian benchmark indices finished Sunday’s special Muhurat Trading session with marginal losses, as selling pressure in banking and information technology shares offset gains in other sectors.

The BSE Sensex slipped 28.62 points, or 0.04 per cent, to finish at 80,999.40, while the NSE Nifty shed 43.95 points, or 0.18 per cent, to settle at 24,986.40.

Both indices witnessed fluctuations during the shortened session. The Nifty briefly climbed to 25,132 before losing ground and closing below the 25,000 mark. The Sensex moved between 81,442 and 80,932 before ending nearly 29 points lower.

Among individual stocks, SBI Life Insurance, InterGlobe Aviation and Bharti Airtel featured among the major decliners. Sun Pharma and Tata Steel recorded notable gains, while Mahindra & Mahindra and InterGlobe Aviation were also listed among the session’s prominent laggards.

Broader market indices performed better, with the Nifty MidCap 100 advancing 0.13 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index gaining 0.94 per cent.

At the sectoral level, pharmaceutical and healthcare shares led the gains, whereas banking and private banking indices faced the strongest selling pressure.

Looking ahead to Samvat 2083, market experts expect equities to retain a positive long-term outlook, although investors may have to settle for more selective and moderate returns.

Analysts believe corporate earnings growth will be a more important driver of market performance than rising valuations.

Experts advised investors to concentrate on quality stocks, sustainable earnings and disciplined investment strategies.

Investors observe Muhurat Trading as a special market session during Diwali, alongside Lakshmi Puja.

The annual tradition marks the beginning of Vikram Samvat, the Hindu financial year, and offers an auspicious occasion for investors.
