Jeet Adani Says Assam Could Become India’s Energy Hub, Eyes 40,000 Jobs

Adani Group Director Jeet Adani said Assam could establish itself as a key energy centre for India and potentially earn the description ‘Battery of India’ in the years ahead.

He made the remarks during the foundation stone ceremony for Adani Power’s 3,200 MW thermal power facility in Chapar, located in Dhubri district.

Jeet Adani said Assam had undergone considerable change in recent years and was attracting greater interest from investors and businesses.

Recalling his association with Assam, Jeet Adani said he had travelled to the state around 40 times over the past five years.

He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with supporting an environment focused on economic expansion, infrastructure development and investment.

He said the Adani Group had initially entered Assam with an intention to contribute to the state’s development before identifying opportunities across several sectors.

Power Project to Create Jobs

The ₹48,000-crore thermal power project will have a generation capacity of 3,200 MW and is expected to become a major power-generation facility in the Northeast.

Jeet Adani said employment generation and participation from local communities remained important elements of the group’s investment plans.

He said recruitment initiatives had already resulted in 4,500 young people from Assam securing jobs.

The group expects its businesses across the state to create around 40,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

“Our goal is to ensure that more and more local talent becomes an active part of this growth journey,” he said.

Jeet Adani said Assam could eventually produce energy not only for its own requirements but also contribute to the country’s wider energy security.

He described the state’s growing industrial and infrastructure activity as an indication of its expanding economic potential.

He also said the current investments marked only the beginning of the group’s efforts to expand its presence in Assam.
