India’s Electronics Exports Cross USD 40 Billion, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw

India’s electronics exports have surpassed USD 40 billion, marking an eight-fold increase over the last 11 years, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. He also noted that domestic electronics production has risen six times during the same period.

Speaking at the 14th Convocation of IIT Hyderabad, Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid progress of India’s first bullet train project, which is expected to be operational by August or September 2027. He further added that the country is now focused on becoming a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

The Minister announced that India’s first commercial-scale, Made in India semiconductor chip will be manufactured this year. He expressed confidence that India will become one of the top five semiconductor nations in the coming years.

Vaishnaw said the country is investing in capital equipment and materials critical for semiconductor production.

“In just 11 years, we have increased our electronics production six times. That’s a double-digit CAGR that any corporate would envy. We have increased our exports eight times and crossed USD 40 billion in electronics exports. This pace of growth is phenomenal and rarely seen in countries of our size,” the Minister further said.

Vaishnaw credited this growth to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. He recalled that India successfully designed a complete 4G telecom stack in just three and a half years.

Today, this stack is deployed across nearly 90,000 telecom towers, surpassing the telecom networks of several countries.

He further emphasised that India’s rapid progress in electronics exports, semiconductor development, and telecom innovation underlines the nation’s transformation into a global technology hub.
