India Takes Lead In Technological Innovation, Says World Economic Forum

India continues to position itself as one of the fastest-growing economies and a global leader in digital innovation, according to the World Economic Forum (WEF).

On the opening day of the WEF Annual Meeting 2025, the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) India launched its six-year impact journey report, marking a significant milestone in the country’s tech-driven development.

WEF’s Long-Standing Partnership With India

The WEF’s partnership with India dates back more than four decades, evolving into a robust and multi-dimensional collaboration. Over the years, this partnership has led to impactful initiatives involving the national and state governments, business leaders, civil society, and experts, advancing shared priorities and goals.

According to the foreword of the new report, India’s focus on using technology as an enabler rather than a barrier is highly relevant in today’s world. The WEF expressed pride in partnering with India to shape a future that is more human-centric, sustainable, and resilient.

Key Achievements And Focus Areas

The six-year impact report highlights several achievements, underscoring the critical role of multi-stakeholder collaboration in scaling up technologies to solve complex developmental issues. Some of the key milestones include:

  • AI-driven agricultural programs that have boosted farmers’ incomes.
  • Healthcare solutions that provide access to life-saving services.
  • Sustainable urban development frameworks that enhance the quality of life in cities.

These accomplishments were made possible through partnerships across public and private sectors, academia, and civil society, with an emphasis on responsible governance and practical solutions.

India Focuses On Future Technologies

S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), highlighted the importance of the partnership between India and C4IR India in leveraging technologies for critical sectors like health, education, smart cities, and agriculture.

Krishnan emphasized the importance of the AI for India 2030 initiative, a key partnership with MeitY that brings together industry, startups, and government to harness AI for societal benefit.
