Honda’s made-in-India Elevate SUV has earned a 5-star safety rating in Japan’s New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP), marking a significant milestone for Indian automotive manufacturing.
Honda’s Elevate, a mid-size SUV manufactured at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, achieved an impressive overall score of 90% in JNCAP crash tests.
Marketed as the WR-V in Japan, the Elevate is the first Indian-built Honda vehicle to be exported to the Japanese domestic market.
According to CarToq, the SUV scored 176.23 out of 193.8 points, showcasing strong performance in both preventive and collision safety.
The Elevate demonstrated exceptional safety in various categories:
In the full frontal collision test, driver safety scored 96%, while rear-seat passenger protection stood at 88%.
During the front offset collision test, driver safety registered 86.9%, and rear passenger protection received a perfect 100%.
The vehicle also scored maximum points in the side impact test.
For pedestrian safety, the Elevate received 2.91 out of 4 for head protection and a full 4 out of 4 for leg protection.
Honda manufactures the Elevate at its facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan, positioning it as a flagship model in its global export strategy.
Despite the high performance in Japan, the Elevate is still awaiting safety tests under Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP protocols.
Launched in India in 2023, the Honda Elevate competes with other mid-size SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Hyryder.
The SUV features a sleek design and offers a range of premium features, including:
Under the hood, the Elevate is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 119 bhp and 145 Nm of torque.
Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission.
