Gautam Adani Says Mundra, Vizhinjam And Khavda Are Creating New Infrastructure Capabilities

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Monday said major infrastructure assets such as Mundra and Vizhinjam ports and the Khavda renewable energy project are not merely meeting existing demand but creating new capabilities and changing the economics around them.

Addressing CareEdge Group’s annual summit, Gautam Adani said India had entered a new phase in which infrastructure was evolving rapidly. He said rating agencies must adapt their frameworks to assess the growing sophistication of infrastructure projects.

The Adani Group Chairman said building only for visible demand would leave India late to tomorrow’s opportunities.

Gautam Adani said a traditional rating assessment three decades ago could have dismissed Mundra in Gujarat, now India’s largest port, as a marshy coastline without an industrial ecosystem.

Today, Adani Group Chairman said, Mundra has become one of India’s important commercial gateways while creating an ecosystem several times larger than the port itself, connecting railways, logistics centres, power plants, industrial zones, traders and manufacturers across the country.

Gautam Adani said the Vizhinjam port project in Kerala similarly faced a lack of takers for 25 years because of its complexity and perceived capital risk.

The Adani Group eventually stepped in and built the project.

Gautam Adani said Khavda could appear under a traditional framework as a harsh desert project with execution risks and uncertain demand, adding that such caution was justified. He further said the project should not be viewed merely as a renewable energy project, but as a platform where energy, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, digital infrastructure and industrial capability converge at an unprecedented scale.

India’s Future Capacity

According to Gautam Adani, Khavda can provide the clean energy required for India’s future computing infrastructure and serve as a foundation for the country’s AI manufacturing ecosystem and broader AI economy. He said India’s infrastructure ambitions had previously faced constraints due to limited resources, capabilities and confidence.

Today, Gautam Adani said, the country has resources, demonstrated capability and greater belief in its potential. He further highlighted the rapid expansion of India’s roads, ports and airports, renewable energy capacity and digital infrastructure, which is reaching hundreds of millions of people.
