On Thursday, the benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty ended a seven-day winning streak as investors booked profits after recent high gains amid bearish cues from Asian markets.
The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 132.04 points, or 0.19 percent, to close at 69,521.69. The gauge touched the lowest intra-day level of 69,320.53.
The Nifty lost 36.55 points, or 0.17 percent, to settle at 20,901.15.
Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, and ITC were among the Sensex’s major laggards.
The winners were Power Grid, UltraTech Cement, NTPC, and Titan.
In Asian markets, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.79 percent, the Kospi in South Korea lost 0.13 percent, the Hang Seng in Hong Kong sank 0.73 percent, and the Shanghai Composite in China fell 0.09 percent.
The US markets ended on a mixed note on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 losing 0.39 percent.
Brent crude was trading 1.01 percent higher at USD 75.05 a barrel on Thursday.
According to exchange data, Foreign institutional investors sold stocks worth Rs 79.88 crore on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the Sensex rose 357.59 points, or 0.52 percent, to 69,653.73. The Nifty gained 82.60 points, or 0.40 percent, to 20,937.70.
