Benchmark equity indices rose in early trade on Monday, with the Sensex and Nifty reaching new highs, boosted by global markets and foreign fund inflows.
The 30-share BSE Sensex soared 307.22 points to a new high of 74,555.44 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty advanced 79.6 points to 22,593.30.
Info Edge( India), Godrej Consumer, Adani Green Energy, Mahindra & Mahindra, and GAIL(India) were the top gainers.
Among the laggards were PNB, Adani Ports, Apollo Hospitals, Adani Power, and Wipro.
In Asian equity markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225, and South Korea’s Kospi were trading in the green, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Shanghai were trading in the red.
Brent crude lost 1.61 percent to USD 89.71 a barrel.
The US markets ended with a gain on Friday.
According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought securities worth Rs 1,659.27 crore on Friday.
On Friday, the BSE benchmark Sensex improved 20.59 points or 0.03 percent to 74,248.22, while the NSE Nifty declined 0.95 points to 22,513.70.
