Karnataka Police Seize 5 Crores in Cash and 106 Kg of Jewellery Ahead of Elections

Bellary, Karnataka: In a significant pre-election raid conducted ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Karnataka Police seized Rs 5.60 crore in cash along with 3 kg of gold, 103 kg of silver jewellery, and 68 silver bars. The raid, which took place in Bellary town, uncovered large sums of cash totaling ₹5.6 crore, along with gold and silver bars and jewellery collectively valued at crores.

Authorities reported that the substantial haul of cash and jewellery was recovered from the residence of Naresh, identified as a jewellery shop owner. Naresh has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing interrogation, police confirmed.

Suspecting a potential hawala link, police have registered a case under section 98 of the Karnataka Police Act. The investigation’s findings will be forwarded to the Income Tax department for further scrutiny, authorities stated.
