The National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have issued the timetable for the special trading session that will mark Diwali this year.
Both exchanges will conduct Muhurat trading on Sunday, November 8, 2026, between 02:20 PM and 03:30 PM.
The pre-open order entry window will operate from 02:05 PM to 02:15 PM, with order matching and trade confirmation scheduled to continue until 02:17 PM.
A brief buffer period will follow before regular trading starts at 02:20 PM.
Trading in securities outside the closing auction session (CAS) will continue until 03:30 PM, while transactions in CAS securities will end at 03:15 PM.
The exchanges have announced separate windows for other market activities.
Block deals will be permitted between 01:50 PM and 02:05 PM, while the special pre-open session for initial public offerings (IPOs) and relisted securities will run from 02:05 PM to 02:50 PM. These securities will subsequently be available for normal market trading from 03:05 PM to 03:30 PM.
According to the NSE, the call auction session for illiquid securities will take place from 02:25 PM to 03:10 PM.
Traders must complete trade modifications by 04:15 PM.
The exchange said participants could enter, modify or cancel orders during the designated pre-open and closing auction windows. These actions would be subject to the applicable market and limit order rules.
Automated random closures will apply during the final minutes of specified order-entry periods.
The NSE further stated that all transactions executed during Muhurat trading would attract settlement obligations. These would be the same as those applicable on an ordinary trading day.
Indian stock exchanges observe Muhurat trading every year on Diwali as part of a long-established market tradition.
The session marks the start of a new Vikram Samvat, with the upcoming occasion ushering in Samvat 2083.
Many market participants regard the special window as auspicious. They trade in the hope of welcoming prosperity and financial success in the coming year.
