CCEA Approves Multi-Tracking Projects To Expand Indian Railways Network

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given the green light to four significant multi-tracking projects across six states—Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand—at an estimated cost of Rs 11,169 crore.

The Indian Railways will expand its network by approximately 574 kilometres through these projects, aiming to complete them by the financial year 2028–29.

According to an official statement, these routes are vital for the transportation of coal, cement, clinker, gypsum, fly ash, containers, agricultural commodities, and petroleum products.

The capacity augmentation from these projects is expected to increase freight loading by 95.91 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

The projects include the fourth line addition between Itarsi and Nagpur, doubling of the Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar) to Parbhani line, third and fourth lines between Aluabari Road and New Jalpaiguri, and the third and fourth lines between Dangoaposi and Jaroli.
