Blinkit permanently Closes Some Dark Stores Amid delivery workers’ Protests

Following the strike that Blinkit’s delievery workers went on in the national capital region, the Zomato-owned quick commerce company has told the delievery executives that it will shut down some of the dark stores in Gurugram permanently.  For the unversed, the protest was over Blinkit’s revised rates and benefits that plunge minimum earnings on orders. As per the workers, the new payout structure would result in decreasing their income as well as make their job unsustainable.

The partner app floated a message in Hindi and English, which read, “Dear Blinkit partner, We thank you for providing your services to customers from your store. You all have not been working at the store for the past 3-4 days, and work has not started despite a lot of talks. That’s why the company is having to shut down this store forever.” The message also stated, “Since this store is being shuttered permanently, we are disabling all of your IDs. For any issue, you can raise a ticket on support.”

Take a look at the screenshot:

According to the new payment system, instead of getting Rs 25 for each delivery, workers will now be compensated with a minimum of Rs 15 under Blinkit’s. The walkout by delivery executives is in protest of the new pay scale.
