Apple has reached a significant milestone in India, entering the top five smartphone brands for the first time since launching iPhones in the country.
This achievement comes after Apple captured a 9-10 percent market share in India during the festive September–December quarter of 2024, according to data from market trackers IDC and Counterpoint Research.
Apple’s growth was driven by festive discounts, attractive offers like 24-month no-cost EMIs, and strong online deals that boosted sales across the nation.
IDC’s Research Director, Upasana Joshi, attributed much of Apple’s rise to its focus on older models, particularly the iPhone 15 and iPhone 13.
The increasing popularity of premium smartphones in India, especially among youth and the middle class, has also benefited Apple.
Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint, highlighted that in many Tier-II cities and beyond, owning an iPhone has become a symbol of status.
Apple’s growth in India aligns with its global strategy, with the country set to become its third-largest market by 2026.
In 2024, Apple shipped over 12 million iPhones in India, marking a robust 34–35 percent growth compared to the previous year.
Apple’s local manufacturing efforts have also played a key role in its success.
In 2024, the company started producing the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in India, alongside expanding the production of AirPods and other devices.
The company is also increasing its local manufacturing of iPads and MacBooks.
As a result of these initiatives, Apple’s net profit surged 23 percent to Rs 2,745.7 crore in FY2023-24, primarily driven by increased iPhone sales.
Analysts forecast continued growth in Apple’s revenues and profits as the company strengthens its presence in the Indian market.
